Hello everyone!
We’re over halfway through July, and I’m posting my last June happening. XD Oh, but before I start, if you are doing The Summer Bored Games make sure to check out the newest challenges Allison posted on her blog! CLICK CLICK CLICK!
In celebration of the first day of Summer (and because I had been wanting to pick wildflowers for a while) I decided to drive around our farm in our Mule (which is a UTV – a teeny bit like a golf cart, only way more off-roady and powerful) and pick each type of wildflower I saw. It was super fun and altogether I think I found twenty different kinds! I found one for every color of the rainbow except blue. And green, but the leaves count for that. 😉
I started down at the pond where I found these two flowers. I’m not sure what they are.
Next I found some Milkweed and Queen Anne’s Lace.
Fleabane was everywhere so I grabbed a sprig of that, followed by some lovely scarlet Trumpet Vine flowers and a purple clover flower.
Maggie loves to ride in the Mule or run beside it. I made her get in after she was running a lot because she looked so hot. XD I don’t think she really wanted to ride at that moment, but at least I could drive fast without feeling sorry for her. 😉 A lovely blurry picture of the very dirty Mule mirror:
After that I drove past the barn to some fields and pastures and on the way I found lots more flowers. First there was some Yarrow and some type of chive-or-onion-like flower. I also found a rather wilted purple flower. I’m not sure what it is.
I stopped to get some Daisies (Ox-Eye Daisies maybe?) and noticed some tiny fuchsia colored flowers nearby so I got both of those.
Next I found butterfly weed! It’s so vibrantly orange and not very weedy looking and I was quite happy to find some. I also found some interesting round flowers that looked like they weren’t quite in bloom yet.
Next up were some Black-Eyed-Susans. By now my bucket was getting pretty full!
There was a spot that was full of Fleabane and a thistleish flower (which thankfully didn’t have prickers), so I got the latter and added that to my bucket. I also found some Phlox (I think) that were rather bedraggled.
I waited for Maggie to cool off and get a drink in the creek before I drove to another part of the farm.
I found some really ugly gone-to-seed flowers that also resembled thistles by the dumpster. Sadly they had prickers. I would have put them in the dumpster but I was trying to get every flower, so they made it into my bouquet.
Finally, I found some Smartweed and some more wilted flowers on a vine.
When I got back I put them all in a big jar and they stayed on our dining room table for a few days until they wilted. It was a lot of fun! I might try it again towards the end of summer and see how many other kinds there are.
what is your favorite of the wildflowers I picked?
can you find the insects that are on two of these flowers?
Ooooh! I loved this post, Megan! All of the flowers are so vibrant and beautiful! It seems like you had a lot of fun collecting them. 🙂 I’ll have to try this sometime soon!
-Clara ❤
P.S: I found the insects! XD There's an ant on the red flower in the fifth picture and a tiny spider on the daisy in the 11th picture. 😛
