An Attempt at Fishing

Hello there! Thanks for reading this post.

This past weekend two of my cousins came down to our new farm and then went home Sunday. On Saturday we decided we’d try fishing.

We wanted some bait so we went to the Dollar General to try to find a net. We found no nets there and apparently, judging by the cashier’s reaction when we asked if they had any, Dollar Generals are not the type to carry fishing nets.  So we went with a strainer and colander instead. And my cousins convinced me to buy donuts.

With our new purchases we went down to the creek. After walking some distance along the creek we came to a pool that had various minnows as well as multiple crayfish. After standing in what felt like liquid ice for twenty minutes or so, we had four minnows and three crayfish so we went back to the house with our catch.

^last two photos credit to Allison^

After lunch we headed down to the pond with our fishing poles and bait. We dug some worms to use as well as the minnows, and since we didn’t have any bucket to put the worms in, we just kept a pile of dirt on the dock.

When our hooks were successfully baited we begun fishing. Or rather, we cast our lines and sat down to wait. When we had no nibbles or bites after a good while we decided we should get some food, so one of my cousins and I went back and packed a basket full of snacks. When we returned everyone was ready to stop fishing and eat, so we did just that.

Actually not everyone was eating snacks because Allison and Willow were sunning at the end of the dock.

The fishing lines were left in the water in case any fish were as hungry as we were.

Among the snacks were the Dollar General donuts. Somehow they tasted better on the dock than they normally do. And the dSLR makes them look so pretty! XD

Jeff especially loved the donuts.

Willow ate nothing, but she was offered several dandelion leaves.

When we had eaten our fill we returned to the house and we made cupcakes, and Jeff could barely contain himself when I wouldn’t let him have any more of the donuts. Poor, poor Jeff.

Jeff looks extremely haggard in the picture. The grayness of the photo doesn’t help anything either. But HAHA! Poor Jeff wanted those donuts really badly. I’m not sure how they got all – I was going to let him have another one later. Maybe he did without my knowing… Hmm.

Well, that ends the tale of our fishing adventure! I let the rest of the minnows and crayfish go since we didn’t catch anything, and I’m sure they appreciated my tenderheartedness. I do not like using minnows as bait but they do stay on well, I’ll give them that. As for whether they catch anything or not, that remains to be seen.

do you like those kinds of donuts?

ever had a snacknic?

  1. *gasps* am I? The first? Commenter? WOW! It’s probably because the other comments haven’t loaded, but WHATEVER. Ooh! I’ve never been fishing. 😀 It looks like fun! Great post!

  2. Ah, fishing! I like fishing mostly because my grandpa always would fish with us when we were younger. And DONUTS. I have never had a donut before (I have to eat gluten free so that limits my options as far as buying them) but they look amazing. I keep telling myself I’m going to make some one day… but I have no clue if that’ll actually happen. 😆 Loved the post! ❤

  3. Fishing is awesome! 😀 I caught a catfish once… we let him free in our pond, ha. And those doughnuts are the best – they’re my dad’s favorites and he’d eat them a lot when we were first building our houses. =)

  5. That looked like a lot of fun and YASS donuts!!! *proceeds to walk with arms out in zombie fashion to nearest store with donuts* Hahaha! Jeff looked so funny in that picture, he must have really liked those, sounds like my brother, leave some out and they will disappear, haha! I’ve never had a snacknic but it would be fun!

  6. I love your entries. You remind me so much of my sisters and myself when we were younger. We were always outside and looking for adventure. It’s such a treasured time for me. Now with my own little ones we like to go explore too. Fishing is a favorite of ours.

  7. I’m not any sort of fisher, but this was an interesting post, nonetheless. I’m not a big fan of crayfish, though, because sometimes they show up in our pool.
And off the subject of this post, the bracket game is open, so make your picks as soon as possible! Kansas is a #1 seed, by the way. 😉 I’m already filling out my brackets. 🙂

      1. Yes, you made a bracket for my bracket game! I can’t see your bracket (no one can see each other’s brackets until Thursday when the games start), but I can tell that you completed your bracket for my bracket game. I hope you do well! 🙂

      2. Haha, well okay. But you could always turn on the TV (do you have one set up?) sometime tomorrow (there’s games all day) and see if you’d like it. March Madness is pretty exciting, you know. 😉

      3. Haha, I see! XD We don’t watch TV much either, but March Madness is very important. The games are very exciting, too. Yesterday a lower seeded team (Loyola Chicago) beat Miami an a (for all practical purposes) buzzer beater!

      4. Haha, well, everyone has their own favorites. Mine are Butler, Ohio State, Kentucky, and Xavier. 🙂 Did you hear about UMBC’s upset of no 1 seed Virginia last night? That was historic!

      5. Well, it’s all over the news, because a 16 seed had never beat a 1 seed before in the tournament. Basically, everyone’s bracket is busted now (I put Virginia in the Final Four).

      6. Hehe, please don’t get mad at me! XD
Yes, we all were rooting for Villanova last night, too! We stayed up and watched the whole game on the computer (we don’t have TBS). Did you watch the entire game?

      7. Okay. 🙂 But you know, a great way to learn more about a sport is to watch it. I used to know very little about the rules of basketball, but I know a lot more now because I’ve watched a lot of games.
Oh, that’s great that you watched part of the Butler game! I love watching Butler play, because they’re my favorite team. 😉

      8. All right, Megan! Thanks for being such a loyal friend! 😀 It’s always good to be able to root for the same teams. Sometimes in our family we root for different teams in a basketball game, and it’s not the best atmosphere. XP

  8. How fun! I have definitely had a snacknic before. XD Those doughnuts look delicious, although I prefer chocolate-frosted-fried-doughnuts. 🙂

  9. That looks like so much fun! 🙂 It seems like you had a pretty great time and the pictures were awesome. I’ve never had that kind of donuts, but I sort of want to try them now. XD Hey, you used “tenderheartedness”! 😛 (That was the word I challenged you to use, right? XD)
