Creatures of the Tank

Oooh!  What could it be? What could it BE? Here are some hints: crustaceans, river, small, big claws.

Claws? BIG CLAWS?!? Oh, what COULD it be?!

Okay.  Don’t worry we didn’t capture some monster.  But they can look kind of – uh – shall we say strange?

Crawdads! Crawfish! Crayfish! Mudbugs! Little lobsters with claws and bug eyes! Whatever you call them that’s we have in our tank. Actually, we have four of them in our tank. And one in a fishbowl.

The habitat of the first four:

And the habitat of the last.

And now for the crayfish that live in them.

Of the four the first one you will get to see is Jeff’s crayfish, Mike (named after lead singer of a band my brother likes).

Here is Mike along with his buddy, Mike’s Reflection.

Next is Carmen’s, Jamie (named after a singer also).

And Logan’s, named Duncan ( after a drummer in a band).

You can see that Dunkin’s left claw is smaller, that is because it fell off and is beginning to grow back.

And then there is mine. His name (well, it might be a her) is Bart after Mercy Me’s lead singer.  The only problem is we can’t seem to find him in the tank…

Bart’s claw fell off and should grow back sometime soon. Don’t worry, it isn’t unusual for a crayfish’s claw to fall off.

And then there is little Mudbug. Allison’s crayfish.

Mudbug is only about an inch long!

I caught all of these but Mudbug (Allison caught him) a while ago at a creek.

Also at another creek/river/stream we caught some other creatures – a big minnow named Skippy, and the little minnow named Thing 1.  We had a Thing 2, but it is believed he was eaten by a crayfish.  We also had a Sculpin, but he died.
