Flowers and Caterpillars in Fading Light

Hello everyone!

I’m hopeless at photography post titles, but I do have some fun photos to show you today! Okay, now we can get to the photography. I’ve been meaning to photograph some garden produce lately before it goes away, but by the time I got out there the light wasn’t very good for taking photos of veggies shrouded in leaves. So I chose more out-in the open subjects: flowers!

Cosmos are some of my favorite flower photography subjects. They’re so flowy and showy and pretty! I love how their petals are sort of transparent. 

Our zinnias are still going pretty strong, but they’re getting past their peak. A few weeks ago there were so many gorgeous flowers in our zinnia patch! 

Crab grass is a rather unwelcome crop, but it does look pretty when it’s covered in waterdrops!

As I was taking those photos I spotted a caterpillar on a stalk of dill. When I went closer to take his picture, I spotted several others scattered about the various mostly-dead dill. I’m not sure how they get enough to eat, but they’re so cute and photogenic!

Look at all that bokeh!

I love their “faces” – the patterns on them usually do sort of resemble a face! 🙂

Next up is a very bejeweled fellow on a very dead stalk. Maybe he’s about to make a cocoon?

These are Black Swallowtail caterpillars by the way. They’re very easy to recognize and always come to our dill sometime or other! I love the bright yellow spots on them.

This little guy was nicely framed by this dill stem. There were so many different sizes and stages over the dill. I counted 9 different caterpillars in total.

And then finally, before the sunlight completely dissapeared, I headed down to the big zinnia patch and took just a few photos.

And that’s it! I hope you enjoyed these photos. I enjoyed taking them! I haven’t done much photography just for the sake of photography lately, so it was nice to do it again.
