Christmas Tree-ing x2

Hello everyone!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE! I’m so excited for tomorrow! And I better get crackin’ on this post before Christmas actually rolls around, hehe.

We decorated two Christmas trees this year, one at my grandparent’s house after Thanksgiving, and then we picked out and decorated our own. So get ready for a lot of evergreen!

Also get ready for a lot of not-so-high-quality photography. The lighting was less than ideal both times but bear with me and see if you can survive the grainyness.

There were very many people helping/observing when we decorated the tree, which made for a very fun and loud experience. And we only broke one ornament! (“We” hehe. It was actually me oops.)

Allison and Logan mostly put up the lights, since they’re the tallest of the cousins. It was rather difficult (at least it looked that way ;)) but we (“we”) got it done!

The star was even harder. The top part of the Christmas tree was too tall for it so Logan went upstairs and reached through the balcony spindles to cut part of it off with his knife.

He used the same method for putting the star on top.

Jeff took a timelapse of the whole thing with his little go-pro-esque camera, and also attempted to figure out how the light strand fixer worked. (Earlier I had fixed the lights in a garland with it (I felt very accomplished even though I have no idea how I did it), and Jeff was still trying to figure out what made it work.)

Apparently I didn’t get any pictures of the finished tree. But I did have fun light with the bokeh and attempts at light painting!

Moving on to my family’s Christmas tree now. We always go to a Christmas tree farm and chop one down, so we headed off to a nearby farm at the beginning of December to search one out.

They were all pretty short which was unfortunate since our house can hold really tall ones and we’re all pretty tall, so it seems strange to have a short tree.

This is our method of measuring. If Logan can reach the top of one then we have a good guesstimate that it’s about 7 and a half feet tall.

Or more, when he has his boots on.

We finally found a white pine that worked, and dad did the honors of cutting it down. We all were waiting to yell timber…

But instead of letting it fall to the ground Logan just picked it up. XD

Jeff helped Logan carry it part of the way, but he was feeling a bit feeble after recovering from being sick.

So Logan did most of the carrying.

It got shaken, netted, and attached to the top of the car, and then we headed home!

We decorated it two nights later if I remember correctly. It was a bit of a struggle in many different ways. First of all because the tree had been in the net for a while and its branches were sort of bent upwards, which made it a little difficult to hang the ornaments. Also dad overestimated how many layers of branches to cut off, so he ended up having to make the whole thing shorter. Then the lights were multicolored, which we decided we didn’t really like (after they were on the tree) and the whole thing fell down the next day. XD But we had fun and it was certainly a memorable tree.

The lighting was awful, like I said before, so I kinda gave up on pictures. Jeff however decided to try his hand at it with my camera and so kudos to Jeff for the few decorating photos.

Dad always hands out the ornaments and we groan over the ones we made in kindergarten and remember the vacations where we got the souvenir ornaments and laugh over the creepy dragonfly and creepier seashell angels and it’s quite fun!

Jeff got to pay me back for all the random photos I take of him.

While he was taking pictures he said “wow, I could really do this! I could be a photographer.” and I like to think that that was right before he took this picture. XD (Okay fine, he did pretty well for very little practice and awful lighting.)

I dearly love to photobomb. And Logan already was, so it’s okay. *nods*

And I think that about covers our piney adventures! Christmas has so many fun traditions and I can’t wait for our church’s Christmas Eve service tonight and all the celebrations in the next few days! Also here’s a good article on Christmas if you’d like to read it. 🙂
