Recent Envelope Art

Hello everyone!

I’m back again with some more envelope art!  I’ve been keeping track of letters I’ve sent and received since June and if I counted correctly I’ve sent about 80 letters in that time period. 😮 So, lots of envelope art! I don’t do wonderful envelope art for every letter, so I definitely don’t have 80 photos for you. But I’ve gotten a pretty good collection of mail photos to share today, so let’s begin.

I think I’m gonna sort these by types of envelopes, for something different. So we’ll start with white envelopes! I got these at Walmart, in case you need to know. 🙂

It’s Olaf! Only a little less creepy looking. (Olaf is one of our rabbits, for those of you who don’t know.) I was inspired by a photo my sister Allison took of him last summer. I did this with watercolor pencils and Micron pens.

Cacti are fun to draw and so when I wrote my first letter to Sarah, I decided to do a succulent/cacti theme to match the international stamps. 🙂

envelope art nov (3) (1800x1200)

More watercolor pencil and Micron pen! That’s most of what I did on these white envelopes. Anyway, this is a corn scene in case you couldn’t tell. I love how green corn looks in the summer. Only 7 months until next summer! 🙂

envelope art nov (13) (1800x1200)

Actually this wasn’t a Walmart envelope, it was a random envelope that Allison had that I used after I ran out of white envelopes. But that doesn’t really matter so ANYWAY. I made a panda themed letter for Avery and then doodled this little bear on the front. Also the chickadee stamp sort of matched, so yay!

envelope art nov (5) (1800x1200)

I’m pretty proud of this one, to tell you the truth. 😀 IT’S SO CUTE! This is Laura’s family’s cow, Calvin. I did this one with watercolor pencil and Micron pen too, though I think I did normal watercolor for the background.

On to colored envelopes!

envelope art nov (9) (1800x1200)

I made this one with potatoe stamps and purple acrylic paint. It was fun, and very easy. 🙂

envelope art nov (7) (1800x1200)

I really love how this one turned out! I sketched the marigold (using watercolor pencils – surprise surprise!) on label paper and then did some letters in a similar style and similar colors and viola! 🙂

envelope art nov (31) (1800x1200)

Hehe, I actually made this one after the potato stamp one, because I accidentally splattered some purple paint onto a nearby envelope in the process. I decided to turn it into a bubbley envelope, and this was the result! 🙂

envelope art nov (8) (1800x1200)

Here’s a collage envelope I decorated using items from my Blue Snail Mail Kits. I like the white gel pen doodles around it – I think they go well with the galaxy gem.

envelope art nov (15) (1200x1800)

Giraffe! I had fun drawing this guy (again with watercolor pencils and Micron pens), and given the length of his neck, I went with drawing it vertically. Giraffes are a rather odd mixture of elegant and bizarre.

Here’s a little ferris wheel doodle! I used three colors (+ black) to draw it and then used those three colors in the address as well.

envelope art nov (14) (1800x1200)

Ooh, I like how this one turned out! This was one of my almost-fall envelopes I did. 😉 The pattern took a little bit of time, but it was certainly not difficult to draw. This was done with Sharpies.

envelope art nov (19) (1800x1200)

It’s Pusheen! I did this theme for Laura who loves Pusheen. He’s so squishy! It was a very pastel letter, as you can see. 🙂 I think everything was done in Sharpie or gel pen.

envelope art nov (22) (1800x1200)

Here’s the last one in the colored envelope section. This one I made using some of the items in my Autumn Snail Mail Kits. I love the look of the Kraft paper and book page. It seems especially fall-like.

envelope art nov (12) (1800x1200)

First up in the (rather long) Kraft envelope section we have this watercolor dragonfly envelope I did. This time with real watercolors. 🙂 It went well with my frog stamp!

envelope art nov (18) (1800x1200)

Ooh, this sundflower actually turned out pretty well! I always have troubles when I try to draw these but I looked off of this shirt and it worked pretty well. XD This was done with Sharpie. 🙂

envelope art nov (28) (1800x1200)

A fall envelope and card pair. I did a little leafy pattern on both of them, but drew them in corresponding Sharpie colors. I think it turned out pretty well!

envelope art nov (26) (1800x1200)

A little Magnolia flower doodle (okay, not a doodle it actually took me forever to color in those leaves) I did with a black gel pen. Fun fact: the reference photo/drawing for this was in our dictionary!

envelope art nov (25) (1800x1200)

More cacti! I like playing around with the lettering, and for this envelope I did my pen pal’s name in huge letters.

envelope art nov (24) (1800x1200)

I’m not 100% pleased with how this turned out, mostly because I wasn’t sure where to add the black line art. This was done with a metallic gold Sharpie and a gel pen. 🙂

envelope art nov (17) (1800x1200)

Her’s another gold letter! And EEP I LOVE THAT BASIL PICTURE! Fall gave me a good chance to use some of my heaps of gold washi tape that I have. 🙂 It goes quite well with Kraft envelopes, in my opinion!

envelope art nov (23) (1800x1200)

YAY for wildflowers! I love wildflowers, and Aria loves blue, so I did a blue wildflower theme for this letter. I’m glad it wasn’t much longer or I would’ve run out of blue wildflowers to draw, hehe.

envelope art nov (21) (1800x1200)

I painted this one with real watercolor. I actually did a (much more yellow) version of this in my watercolor class, taught by Allison, and then recreated it in purple for this envelope. The hills sort of bled, but it turned out pretty well.

envelope art nov (20) (1800x1200)

This was the envelope I did for a coffee themed letter. It was done with watercolor and gel pen. As you may have noticed, I forgot the A and had to turn the N into AN, which explains the squishedness.
envelope art nov (10) (1800x1200)

SO MUCH WASHI TAPE. I got a set of teal and gold washi tape for my birthday and made a very dizzying envelope with it. It was fun to do the doodles inside each shape.

envelope art nov (6) (1800x1200)

Here’s one I did with materials from my Travel Snail Mail Kits. I like the lettering I did for Enni’s name! White gel pen is so much fun to use. 🙂

envelope art nov (32) (1800x1200)
hehe yes I used more than an additional ounce stamp

YAY for baseball! This one was to celebrate the Nationals winning the World Series! YAY!!! Anywho. It was done completely with red gel pen. Besides the fact that the L looks sort of like a Z, I think it turned out pretty well!

envelope art nov (29) (1800x1200)

It’s Basil! She’s such a great art subject with her lopsided ears. And she’s rather fall colored, so that worked well for this time of year!

envelope art nov (30) (1800x1200) (1800x1200)

Last but not least, a Christmas envelope! Hehe, I’m guessing you weren’t expecting one quite this early. XD But I did it for my Christmas Snail Mail Kits, so I do have a good excuse. And since Jianna loves Christmas I didn’t think she’d mind. 🙂 I hadn’t done the string and wax seal thing before, and I really like how it looks! I’m just hoping it will stay on.

That’s the last of the envelope art! But before I wrap this post up…

envelope art nov (27) (1800x1200)

Allison drew the design for these cute little vinyl stickers, and you can get one with every order you make from my etsy shop, for a limited time only! Just something to keep in mind when you’re getting Christmas gifts and all that. 😀

Okey dokey, enough with the advertising. Thanks for reading this post! If you want to read some more snail mail posts, see the list below.

I hope I’ve inspired you to go write more letters!

how many letters do you estimate you’ve written in your entire life?

did you watch any of the world series?
