Wildflower Room and Yellow Desk Tour

Hello everyone!

I’m finally getting around to posting a room tour, hurrah! After about a year my sister Allison and I finally finished decorating our new bedroom, and a few months after that I finally finished putting this post together. So enjoy!

I’m not exactly sure why, but the picture quality isn’t superb. So I apologize about that!

This is what you see when you walk into our room. Unless you walk in backwards, which is not usual.

Or you might see this view, if you’re looking to the right.

Zooming in on the gallery wall now: this was one of the last things we put in our room and I love how it turned out! So flowery and yellow, YAY! The photo prints are from this photoshoot and then on the far left is a photo from a book along with a poem from Allison’s poem book.  Then the poppy art print on the top left is one that Allison drew and can be found here, the quote beside it can’t be found anywhere except in our room, but that’s another one that Allison drew. On the bottom left is just a piece of pretty scrapbook paper, and in the middle is another print Allison drew and listed in her shop here. Below it is another Allison Art (here), and then finally the little botanical style drawing are ones that I drew and painted. And the frames are from Walmart. They were super cheap which is nice because we just wanted the art to be the main feature and didn’t need any fancy frames.

Down from the gallery wall is a little bookshelf with books (wow really?) and plants and and such.

roomtour4 (1400x2100)

On top is this beautiful wildflower painting done by Allison with acrylic on canvas.

roomtour5 (2100x1400)

And for the actual bookshelf, we have some of Allison’s plants up top, a few little decorations scattered about, and of course books. Not that many though, as you can see. The cupboard on the right has a few more actually, but they don’t go with the theme so they get hidden.

roomtour6 (2100x1400)

Oh yes, and a rug.

roomtour7 (2100x1400)

As for the mantle, we have this lengthy plant that is determined to try and fill our whole room. And doing a pretty good job, at that! Also a feather painting from Hobby Lobby, a flower design painting by Allison, and a pretty blue bottle, with a kinda brownish eucalyptus thingymabop.

roomtour9 (2100x1400)

Ooh yes, on the wall by Allison’s bed we have some wonderful half-moon flower pots with some wonderful succulents Allison got to fill them with! I don’t know which exact ones she got… but these look pretty similar!

roomtour10 (2100x1400)

And her impeccable night stand with very Allison colors. 🙂

roomtour11 (1400x2100)

And then there’s my not-so-impeccable night stand. It’s not awful though! Just not quite as aesthetically pleasing. 🙂 (YES that’s a terribly daunting to-be-read stack, and no I haven’t finished any of them yet. I’ve started three though! Hehe.)

I don’t think our exact alarm clocks are available anymore, but here’s one pretty similar to my white one.

roomtour17 (2100x1400)

Ooh yes and the wonderful wildflower walls! We got these beautiful dried flowers from Etsy and strung them up on twine with tiny clothespins, Polaroid style. I love how it turned out! It’s a fun, unique way to add some color. And flowers. Yay!

roomtour13 (1926x2100)

roomtour15 (1400x2100)

Our beds are painted white like pretty much everything else, but we added bursts of color with the pillows and sheets (which you can’t see in this photo, but you can see them here). We just went with simple white covers, but they do have pretty “embossing” on them if you see them up close.

roomtour1 (2100x1400)

I love our pillows. 😀 Here are Allison’s! We both have the same three pillows in the back with different wildflower ones in the front. Hers has this pretty flower pattern all over it.

roomtour12 (2100x1400)

And here are mine! I like the style of wildflowers on mine. They’re in a more realistic style, but still bright and cheerful.

roomtour14 (2100x1400)
my wildflower pillow case isn’t available anymore, but the yellow one is right here.

On the wall beside my bed, across from the succulent pots, we have two letter boards. So far they’ve only held this quote, but that works!

roomtour16 (2100x1401)

And I think that’s it for most of the room! Beside my bed I have my desk, which I’m getting to now. It’s sort of yellow themed, but there’s a lot of white so it’s not overbearingly yellow. Sadly. XD But since it’s not just my room I’ll resist adding more!

Here we are:

roomtour18 (2100x1400)

We have this nice yellow chair that Mom painted for me. It has its fair share of artsy smudges now, but it’s still certainly yellow!

roomtour19 (2100x1400)

Allison painted some nice little yellow wildflowers on the knobs of my doors/drawers, which I love.

roomtour20 (2100x1400)

For the wall to the left above my desk, I have a pen pal map with pin-points of where my pen pals are. It’s really fun to be able to see where they are at a glance! I covered it up though in this photo, it’s not normally solid yellow.

roomtour22 (2100x1400)

On the opposite side I have a calendar with an overview of all the birthdays of people I know.  (The green dots are where two people have birthdays. There are quite a few in September!)

roomtour23 (2100x1400)

If you haven’t noticed yet, I used a lot of that yellow washi tape with little flowers. It’s so bright and cheery! Anyway, here’s what’s in the middle. It’s just a little strand with clothespins on that I use to hang up photos and art and things my pen pals send to me!

roomtour24 (2100x935)

On the actual desk I have a pile of TBR (to-be-replied(to)) letters. Which is now much bigger. *writes frantically*

roomtour25 (2100x1400)

And then we have my art supplies, yay! Sharpies, then watercolor pencils (which have been replaced with new and improved ones) then gel pens (there are also new ones now), a basket of etc., and a scales to weigh letters and such.

roomtour26 (2100x1400)

On the other side I have a box of goodies to include in letters, a bluetooth speaker (which sadly isn’t yellow) and washi tape. But after my birthday my washi tape collection has grown and I have some little holders to store some of it, so it looks different.

roomtour27 (2100x1400)

And in the center is my pen pal file holder where I keep stickers, stationery, pre-decorated envelopes, and various papers that would otherwise be lost. I also use it as a sticker collection place and put vinyl stickers that people send me on the front of it.

roomtour28 (2100x1400)

My desk used to be a computer desk, so it comes with a handy slide-out tray. It’s nice to use when the rest of the desk gets too cluttered to write letters, or if I want to make a mess on it and then quickly slide it out of sight. Quite helpful indeed! On it I have a tray of random supplies, my watercolors (now replaced with nicer watercolors), a paper cutter, and an idea notebook. Also a handy newspaper in the background so I can keep my desk from getting completely paint covered.

roomtour32 (2100x1400)

Hang tight just a little longer, we’re almost done here! Next up are the drawers. I’m not really sure what the top one is. It’s sort of an everything drawer, but it mostly has envelopes in it. And glitter. And a lot of bubble-gum-wrapper origami butterflies.

roomtour29 (2100x1400)

Down from that is my paper drawer where I store all of my decorative paper.

roomtour30 (2100x1400)

And then on the bottom I have my many letters! They’ve almost outgrown the drawer, and since I took this picture they outgrew the handy storage system I had going. They are now just heaped in there and I’m really hoping I won’t need to refer back to any very soon, haha.

roomtour31 (2100x1400)

Underneath the slide-out part isn’t that interesting. There are reference books (like a wildflower field guide and a dictionary) and notebooks on one side of the shelf, and a box of cards on the other. Underneath is another paper cutter and a too-small trashcan.

roomtour33 (2100x1400)

And finally the last cupboard, something that isn’t totally filled! It has my sauce collection (I’ve switched to a different storage method since then because it was clearly not working) which has been growing nicely. I also have a tray of random items and some empty trash bags and other such stuff! *nods*

roomtour34 (1400x2100)
Fun fact: some of my sauces are doing weird things after I’ve had them for so long. Some are self-inflating and some are turning interesting colors. Hey, it’s science!

And last but not least, my pride and joy – my donkey shelf!! Pretty much everything on it was given to me by someone which makes it even more special. I have photos of donkeys that people know, artwork of donkeys, donkey stuffed animals, and even a donkey book! I have since acquired two little miniature donkeys and a drawing of Eeyore and I. Isn’t it MARVELOUS? 😀

roomtour35 (2100x968)

Okay, I’m finally done! That was a longer tour than I was expecting, but you made it through! And hopefully you found it inspiring or interesting or wildflowery or something. It’s a wonderful room to be in and I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out! It’s mostly this pretty because Allison did so much of it, so thanks a bunch to her!

  1. So pretty, Megan!! I love those wildflower pillows! 😍 And just the wildflower theme in general. 😆

Also, I love how you organize your pen pal things! That map is a great idea! And I think I might need a drawer for letters too. 😝

(also I can totally relate to too small trash cans. 😂)

  2. Megan, your room is, like, the prettiest I’ve EVER seen! It’s so spacious. And I love how everything corresponds so well. I really like your desk area, especially the donkey shelf (SO. COOL.) Sadly, as you saw in my photos my room is a complete failure XD. And unfortunately the sort of colour scheme is pink and purple! Which WASN’T my idea, my sista wanted purple and then somehow we ended up with pink too. Anyways, yes, your room is really quite gorgeous! Oh, and I almost died of a heartattack laughing at that part about walking into your room backwards (maybe thats a lil exaggeration). Okay, I need to stop talking and get some sleep xx

    1. Well THANK YOU! And thank Allison. XD I know, it’s so nice that it’s so big because (heh) I make huge messes in it. Oh, nonsense! It’s not a complete failure! And not everyone has a huge room to decorate. We were a little lost with how to fill up all the wall space. XD But yay, I’m glad you like it! We do too.
      HEHE.

You have a lot of letters. O_O I only have 6 pen pals and I barely have enough room for those letters. XD Ohh! That slide-out desk is so cool! I really enjoyed reading this post! 🙂
