Summer Bored Games: WEEK 2

Hello everyone!

We’ve made it through the first week of SBG! In case you missed it, Clara posted the week one challenges here. (You can’t do those challenges any more for points, but feel free to do them for fun!) Now that she’s started everything off, the second post seems quite simple! So, shall we begin?

(For those of you just signing up or if you’d like to review the rules, the introductory post I posted is right here.)

Alrighty then!

You have until the end of this week to complete however many of the 35 challenges below you wish to do. This is the only week that you’ll be able to complete these challenges.

When you’ve completed all the challenges you’d like to for the week, submit your points using the survey included in this post (see it below). Please try to submit your results just once per week. I suggest waiting until the end of the week to submit the survey.

And now for the week two challenges! You don’t have to eat any onions this week, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be anything…  bizarre. *raises eyebrows dramatically* The numbers in bold are how many points you’ll get for the challenges.

SBG this weeks challenges

  1. Make a collaged face from a magazine (or magazines). 3
  2. Go outside with your camera (or phone), and sit in one place for at least five minutes. Take pictures of anything within your camera’s reach. 2
  3. Wear a hat (except at times when it might not be proper etiquette (i.e. prayer)) from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed. 4
  4. Make a vinegar-and-baking-soda volcano. 2
  5. Make a flower chain/flower crown. If you don’t know how to, check out Loren’s post here2
  6. Take a cold shower. 3
  7. Make a paper boat and sail it in some water. 3
  8. Take a video of yourself reenacting a scene from your favorite movie. 4
  9. Draw a picture using only paper and things found outside (berries, grass, sticks, etc.). 2
  10. Make a short book with words and drawings inside. (To make it just fold your papers in half and staple them that way, then write in it. If you want it to be a smaller book, cut to size) 2
  11. Ask your mom or dad to give you a chore to do (and then do it). 2
  12. Draw a self-portrait (and try to make it detailed.) 4
  13. Take a picture of the sunset or sunrise for at least 3 days in a row. 3
  14. Pick a color and find foods that are all that color. Then plan and have an outdoor picnic with the food. 10 (megapoints)
  15. Create a petition for something ridiculous (examples: “Save the Unicorns”, “Ban Peanut Butter”) and ask at least 4 people that you aren’t related to to sign it. 10 (megapoints)
  16. Make a giantly tall sandwich (any kind works)! 3
  17. Find 3 random words you didn’t know before in the dictionary, and use them (correctly) in 1 day. 4
  18. Find 3 edible things in your fridge that start with the same letter, (example: Barbecue sauce, Butter, and Banana) and 3 edible things in a drawer or cabinet that start with the same letter (example: Garlic salt, Green food coloring, and Gum) and mix them together. If you have to melt them together, that’s fine. Then take three bites of it and swallow.  10 (megapoints)
  19. Celebrate National French Fry Day on July 13th. 2
  20. Write a 600 word comment on a blog (other than your own) in your own words (no copy and pasting allowed). 4
  21. Tape a dollar to a vending machine, or put three quarters in different vending machines (and don’t use them yourself). 4
  22. Smile for 30 minutes. 4
  23. Microwave a grape. (Slice a grape in half longways but leave a little skin so you can open it like a book. Open it and place it in the microwave. Turn the microwave on and be ready to turn it off. In 10-15 seconds you should see spark shooting off the grape! Turn off your microwave after those 10-15 seconds. Don’t let the grape cook longer.) 2
  24. Mix up the perfect mud pie and bake it in the sun. 2
  25. Take pictures of you posing five different ways on different objects at a playground 3

  30. Make a sculpture out of toothpaste and paper. 3
  31. Make a yummy dessert for your family. 4
  32. Press some flowers in a book or under a heavy object so that they dry flat. 1

  1. YAY! 😀 I’m so excited to watch Laura do all of these challenges. XD Also, I sent you an email – I was working on the top 10 contestants but didn’t finish before you posted this. Whoops. I’m glad to do it for this week if you’d like!

    -Clara ❤

  2. WOOHOO, great job, everyone! And congratulations Laura for doing EVERY SINGLE CHALLENGE last week. That is IMPRESSIVE! :O Have fun with this week’s challenges! 😀

  3. Before I begin, I will warn you that this is a VERY long comment.
Hello Megan!! I loved participating in the summer board games challenge week 1. It was so much fun! My sister took one look at the challenges, and then went to write her own list of challenges, LOL! She loved the idea! We both agreed our favorite was the “Write One Hundred Words Praising Silly Songs with Larry.” If you don’t mind me asking, who came up with that challenge? It was hilarious! The picnic idea this week sounds so fun! And same with the eating three foods all of the same first letter mixed together. Hopefully we have some interesting food that won’t taste like garlic, gum and green food coloring in the fridge!

OH MY…am I ever going to finish writing this 600-word comment. xD I am only at 126… make that 131 words. xD Ahhh!!! Anyway, I will ask some interesting/random questions to pass some time. 😉 Who had the idea of making this challenge? I love how it is four 4 weeks, and it has just the right amount of challenges. I mean, really, in no other circumstance would you find me having one finger on my nose while cleaning the living room, getting distracted by finding a magic trick to try/learn, and then going to write a story with only song lyrics. xD

I prefer french fries…what about you? Well, actually it kind of depends on the time of year. Does a smoothie count as a slurpy? I’ve never had one of those before, so I’m not quite sure if that vote counts. LOL! xD

*counts the number of words….not even half way there.* I hope you aren’t too overwhelmed by this comment. It is a mini novel. (I think they are called novellas or novelettes. I think those are really awesome names for little books. Hmm…maybe I’ll write one someday. This comment is helping me brainstorm for new story ideas. (Have you written one before?) Do you like to write…or read? Or have you read a novella before? I have, and absolutely loved it! It was by one of my favorite authors, Rachel Rittenhouse. Her blog is: I have enjoyed reading her articles in the past. Anyway, she wrote a really amazing novella or novelette with the characters from her series. I believed it released the day before Thanksgiving one year (I’d have to double check on that) and I read it that year on Thanksgiving (yep, that’s how much I love reading books or….novellas/novelettes.) Every year since then I have read it on Thanksgiving…It’s kind of like a tradition now. And it gets me super excited for Christmas each year, which just so happens to be my favorite holiday and my birthday. When is your birthday? Do you like Christmas? Is it your favorite Holiday? Wow, this is becoming more and more like a letter.

I almost filled a page in a word document. What shall I write about now? Oh! I have a question that actually has to do with this post and not novellas, birthdays or Christmas. 🙂 Could I take a picture of any challenge or just certain challenges? I would love to take a few pictures this week. I really love the idea of a poster. I should take a picture of the poster I make! That will definitely be interesting with having four people sign it! Lol!
I just saw the hair flower chain—I must have skipped over that challenge before starting to write this comment. 😉 I think that is so neat! Great idea!
YAY!!!! I did it!!! (I wrote a comment with 613 words.)

    1. HAHA THANKS FOR THE HUGE COMMENT! XD I was quite surprised by the length of it until I realized this was one of the challenges. XD I am so glad you like SBG, Anna! And that is so great that your sister made her own! XD Hehe, I believe I came up with the Silly Song one. 🙂 Silly songs are quite nice.
Allison (and Clara) came up with the challenge idea! I had been sending my pen pals some challenges in my letters so I suppose I inspired it, but Allison had the idea of doing it on our blogs. 😉 Yeah, I think it’s a good length too!
Hmm… probably french fries unless it’s really hot outside or something. Slurpees are practically sugary-soda-y slush. XD XD They are good in small amounts but they can get a little… sugary? XD
I love to read, but I don’t write so much. I think I have read a novella but I can’t recall the name. 🙂 That’s neat that your birthday is on Christmas! 😮 I think there was a girl in a church we went to who’s birthday was on Christmas and she was named Holly. XD Yep, Christmas is my favorite holiday! My birthday is August 29.
Oh yeah, you can definitely take pictures of anything related to SBG! (Well, obviously you can take pictures of non-related SBG stuff, but I’m talking about for sending in pictures. ;)) I’d love to see them if you take any!!

  4. Wait, Megan? Sorry for nagging, but.. if I do sit ups, push ups, and jumping jacks, do I get a total of 9 points?

  5. These all sound really awesome!
Last week I looked at the challenges and was like: Let’s DO this.

And I totally blanked about the Whole thing 😆
But this week, THIS WEEK, I’ll be at least giving it a go. 😄

  6. Okay I totally just did the grossest thing ever.
I mixed together Cherries, Cheese, Carrots, Cinnamon, Cumin, and Caramel extract. YUCK!!!!
I just barely got three bites down.

Have any of you girls done that challenge? Please share your disgusting experience.
