Barn Dancing [June Happenings Part I]

Hello everyone! I hope you’re surviving the summer heat. 😛

2018 is over halfway done! Only 165 days until its 2019.  We’ve already had several adventures in the halfway point month of this year and I’m going to try to do a mini series about a few of them.

First up is definitely of highlight of June: a barn dance! Our friend Sam(antha) wanted to have a barn dance in celebration of her birthday, and we got to have it in our shop. There was a lot of sweeping, washing, cleaning up and decorating in preparation, but we all really enjoyed it – even my brothers! 🙂

We started decorating the shop in the morning. We had picked some bouquets and gotten some streamers (which actually didn’t work because the humidity made them go limp) so we set to work setting those up. After a little while Sam’s family came and brought more decorations! We put those up, ate lunch, and changed into our barn dance clothes.

Transporting the bouquets (I love magnolia blooms).
Jeff and Logan roller skated to some Lord of the Rings soundtracks to “test” how music sounded in the barn.

I forgot to take pictures of the loft decorations, but you can see them in this picture that Allison took.

Allison and Sam had basically identical outfits! I took this picture from the loft in the shop.

There were very many dances ranging from simple to confusing, and they were all fun. The most confusing dance was also the dance which I laughed the most in because of how tangled up everyone got. Allison and I finally took a break and took pictures during one of the last dances. Allison took pictures first and then switched out with me. The first three pictures are by her and the rest are the ones I took.

Some more shots from the loft…

Hehe! She caught me in mid air.

Sashaying down the line.
This particular dance is called the Basket Weave.

I learned that it is quite difficult to take pictures of large groups of people. You’re bound to have a few interesting expressions whether they’re intentional or not.

Logan’s expression doesn’t look so weird, but it looks like he’s in the process of falling down. Oh dear. XD

After the last dance (Jeff says he could have kept doing that one forever XD) we had supper and some of the kids went down the the huge hay barn and played on the hay bales which was also quite fun.

Hopefully we’ll be able to do another barn dance sometime!

have you ever done a barn dance?

magnolia flowers, daisies, or ferns?

P.S. My posts may lack featured images for a while because the internet is so slow and PicMonkey doesn’t work well with slow internet.

  2. Ooh, that looks like a ton of fun! I’ve only been to one barn dance (sorta) before, and there weren’t organized dancing, just a bunch of music and people. XD It was fun though!

  3. What fun!!! 😀 I’ve never been to one, but it looks so fun! 🙂 I loved the pictures, and you, Allison and Samantha’s outfits were so pretty, oh, and so was Carmen’s. 😉
To answer your question, I like magnolia blossoms best of the three options, hehe. 😛

  4. I loved seeing these pictures, Megan! I look really hot. 😜 (Can’t imagine why…) Magnolias are definitely my favorite! I really wish we had magnolia trees at our house.

  5. Sam told me you were planning to do that! I wish I could have come danced. The only time I’ve tried to have a barn dance it ended with people strewn on the floor.
