At Assateague

Hello! We are currently at Assateague in our ‘beach house’. It’s not exactly on the beach, but it’s close and quaint, so I guess it fits the title. 🙂

We arrived here Monday night, so we didn’t do much the first day. About a half an hour before we got here, there was a big storm and we pulled over into a parking lot to wait it out a bit. That’s about as exciting as the first day of vacation got. 😛

Yesterday (Tuesday) we went to the beach. The water was frigid! But there were waves, so it was pretty fun. 🙂 Then we made our traditional sand fortress. Usually when we go to the beach we make a sandcastle with lots of trenches and walls around it to see if it can stand against the tide. Usually it doesn’t.

My perfectionist brother smoothing the walls of the trench, pictured below.

And the finished castle – before the waves swept half of it away. Then my brothers decided to just trample over it. The Fortress of the Frigid Beach is no more.

We’ve seen several wild ponies! One galloped right past us as we were walking down the boardwalk at the beach. And another tried to race Dad as we were driving back. But the pony got distracted by a clump of grass and came to an abrupt halt, leaving us the winners of the race. It’s so funny to see horses trotting about the parking lots and walking down sidewalks and roads.

I took this picture right as he was stopping.

Today we went to Chincoteague which wasn’t actually all that great. After waiting a long time for lunch we drove around a bit and went home. The car rides were probably the most interesting, with my younger brother jabbering constantly while we played the alphabet game on the way there, and on the way back my little sister came up with some (very, very strange) ‘would you rather’ questions.

Anyway, here are some more beach-y pictures that I’ve taken. Some of them are kinda over edited, now that I see them again, but oh well. 🙂

Jeff’s cap (pictured here) safely back on his head after a thrilling adventure of being swept into the wind after Jeff stuck his head out of the window while we were driving down the road.

The picture below explains why I don’t often paint my toenails (or fingernails).

This picture is one of my favorites.  I wish the waves were a little less gray though. 😛

I took this picture right before a wave washed over my feet! This is my favorite one that I’ve taken so far.

I noticed the horse hair caught in the splinters after I took this picture. 🙂

There are a bunch of hydrangeas here. I think it must have something to do with northern Atlantic beaches. (or at least non-southern) beaches. XD Rhode Island had them too.

Ta-ta for now!

which is your favorite picture?

do you ever try making sand castles like the one we made?
