Picking Raspberries

Howdy. 🙂

We have a raspberry patch on our farm, and the raspberries are starting to roll in. A few days ago Carmen and I picked a few cups of black raspberries, and we’ve picked two more times since then.

Black raspberries are so good. I love to pluck them off of the vine, because the ripe ones usually slip right off.

Carmen is holding 100 black raspberries. Believe me, it was hard to stack these all in her hands, they kept falling off.

The problem with raspberries are the thorns. You wouldn’t exactly call them comfortable. XD

Our silly dog has learned to pick the raspberries right off of the vines. It seems like the thorns would poke her, but I guess not. 😛

I find raspberry vines quite pretty with all the different colors. Pink, maroon, purple, black…

It’s fun to go raspberry picking and then discover your hands have been dyed pink and red by the juicy berries.

Note to self: Next time, don’t go barefoot.

Hopefully we’ll have some fat and juicy red raspberries soon.

Do you go raspberry or blackberry picking?

Has anyone noticed anything strange about this post? 😛

  1. I love black raspberries! We go picking every Summer, and last year, we picked a LOT! Oh, and barefoot while berry picking? That is NOT a good idea! We put on jeans and sweatshirts, because there are a lot of prickers around. 😀 Our black raspberry plants usually don’t have such sharp thorns; it’s our black berry plants that our sharp.

P.S. Hmm, strange? Well, there aren’t many faces being made. And there are no exclamation points. Those are my guesses. 😛

      1. Ha! I had seen the challenges, so that’s where I got the idea. But I didn’t know if you had taken the challenge. 😉

  3. Oooh! That looks like fun! I used to have a blackberry patch in my backyard and it produced blackberries every summer. I love raspberries just as much as blackberries, though! I’ve never had glack raspberries before, but they look delicious!

  4. I love black raspberries! They just look so scrumptious! 😀 We will probably start picking ours soon… 🙂 But if I went berry picking barefoot, I’d probably get poison ivy all over my feet!
Oh, by the way, I think the prickliest black raspberries plants are the “new” ones(the ones that are white and don’t produce until next year or whenever). The ones that have the yummy berries aren’t so sharp and prickly. 🙂

  5. So awesome! I LOVE raspberries, most all berries for that matter!! 😛 We don’t have any raspberry plants here that I know of so we don’t pick any, but I’m sure it’s really fun! 😀

      1. I can’t remember the last time I picked a raspberry but when I was I kid I’d pick a hand full of them and put them in a bowl with a little milk and sugar and munch away! If a really had a bigger appetite I’d pick enough for mom to make a raspberry pie, so very good!

      2. Actually, I was wrong! My Dad and brother pick them on the mountain across the street from us, I think a few at least! They mostly pick Huckleberries and Thimble berries! Have you ever heard of or had either? They’re both great, but Thimble berries taste like jam! Delicious!
