The Horrible Chicken Nests

Hallo, hello, hillo, hollo, hullo!

Hmm. Hollo doesn’t work the best, and neither does hillo. Oh well. πŸ™‚

You’ve probably heard me talk about making nests for our chicken houses. And this doesn’t mean nailing some plywood together for ten backyard chicken, it means making 128 metal nests. It’s quite riveting. Haha! Get it? You don’t? Oh, shucks. Well, that’s probably because I haven’t explained how we make nests. πŸ˜€

Ahem. Shall I start? Brilliant. (Has anyone noticed that I’ve been typing rather choppy sentences in this post?)

To start with, we have to have a rivet gun with which we rivet the metal pieces together. (Now do yo get my joke about the job being rather riveting? XD)

This is what a rivet gun looks like when it is riveting:

We stick these sword-looking rivets in the holes that are punched into the metal pieces, stick the rivet gun onto the stick part, and pull the trigger. It then squeezes the rivet which keeps the metal pieces together.

The rivet:

We need approximately 125 rivets for each nest. Which is this much:

We also have boring work when we put a rivet in wrong. Then we have to drill it out (or bore it our if you are trying to make a pun) with the drill.

There are many steps to making a nest, but it would take a huge long post to explain it all, and it would still be confusing. So instead of that, I’m going to give you a GIF of all of the steps to making a nest.

Here are all of the nests:

If it looks fun to you, then please come over and make nests for me next year, ’cause I don’t enjoy it… AT ALL. XD

I hope you know how we make nests a little bit better now! πŸ˜€

    1. It isn’t. XD And yes, that’s good! πŸ˜€
Oh, it also helps that your grandmother takes you out for smoothies once a week when you are doing nests, and that you get to celebrate with Pizza. XD And that you get paid… HEH.

  3. This was a very interesting and informative post! πŸ™‚ I did get your “riveting” joke the first time, because Allison told me a little about making the nests. πŸ˜‰
It doesn’t look like much fun making those things, but at least you have a lot of help! Work is always more fun when you have other people working, too. πŸ™‚

  4. Wow, that looks . . . rather time-consuming. At least you’ve got that giant feeling of satisfaction when you’re done! (And relief and a strong dislike for chicken nests, I suppose.)

  5. Well, I gotta say–those must be VERY annoying and time consuming… And I also can’t say I have experience with these evil, Medal chicken nests… But I have had a lot of experience with post hole diggers and pry bars recently… xD
