Going Nest Hunting

Hello everyone! 🙂

Phew, it’s dreary here. It’s rained almost everyday for three. Whole. Weeks. Isn’t that annoying? :/ Sigh.

Some people said they’d like to see my nest-hunting adventure, so here it is. 😉 To start with, I found this robin nest. It had four eggs when I took the picture, but yesterday it only had three. 😮 Anyway, this one is easy to see, but it has no baby birds in it.

Last week I walked into our woodshed and a robin flew out. I looked around for a nest, and sure enough! There was one, tucked away in a little corner. 😀 I came back on Saturday to take some pictures and the mom was back in the nest, looking rather suspicious.

She flew away and perched on some wire, watching to see when I would leave.

It’s raining in this picture, can you tell? 🙂

I poked my head up and saw two tiny baby robins and one bright blue egg.

Then I looked in our apple tree. I saw a bunch of sticks and a  few tail feathers, so I climbed the rain-soaked tree only to find that there were too many leaves and branches in the way of the nest. Besides, it was rather slippery up there. I did get this blurry photo. 😛

Next I went to find a killdeer nest. I was unsuccessful in this, I’m afraid, so there are no picture of a killdeer nest. 😦 😉 But this is what the adult looks like.

After I gave up on the killdeer I took some photos of grass and fleabane (which I posted about in my last post) and saw a mama duck fly  up from the pond. (This is my sixth photo for the 7 day Nature Challenge. I’m going to ask Katie T to do it this time)

I went to inspect, but there were only a bunch of dried grass and reeds. No eggs. I did see another duck couple though, but they flew away presently.

And thus ends my nest-hunting tour. Oh, I also have pictures of a house finch nest,

and this nest, but I don’t know what bird laid these eggs. It’s a pretty nest though!

Before you leave, I made a poll that I’d be happy if you could vote on. 🙂 I have a bunch of posts that I’ll post sometime or other, but hopefully you can help me decide which one to do first. 😀

Thanks for reading! You are dismissed. 🙂

I also made four nests today, but they were metal nests for the chicken house. 🙂 😛

      2. Hmm.. OH! You commented as “Anonymous”…. Hang on!
You’re welcome! You can just post a picture every day (or as often as you can or want to) for seven times and the photo has to be of something nature-y.😀 If you want to, but you don’t need to.:)
        There! That’s what I said. 🙂

    1. Yeah, that’s what we thought it looked like too, but it was about as big as my hand and my friend said she saw the bird fly out and it wasn’t a hummingbird. :/ It was also on a (cold) mountain, so I’m not sure if there would have been any hummingbirds up there. I wish though!

      2. I’m using my tablet, though, so I only have Google. 😢 If I was on the computer, I would use Bing. It’s so much better!!
