Make a Flower Maiden Inchworm

Hello everyone!

I finally got a inchworm tutorial up. In this one you get to…

Megan (snow, experimet, clay) 034 (640x480)

Sound good? Alright, here’s what you will need.

  • Green polymer clay (I used vermillion, bright green, and olive green Premo Sculpey for mine, but you can choose different brands and colors if you’d like), white polymer clay, purple polymer clay, red polymer clay, and yellow polymer clay.
  • An X-acto knife or paring knife
  • A toothpick
  • Your hands
  • Pasta Machine (optional)
  • Ceramic tile or something else with a smooth glass surface

Step One: Mix the inchworm’s ‘complexion’.

Take your green(s) and your white and mix it together very well until it is all one color. If you have a pasta machine, it might be helpful for mixing. If you don’t, just squish it and pull it and knead it.Β Here areΒ the colors I used, and what they looked like when they were all mixed together

Step Two: Shape the inchworm’s body.

Roll the clay into a smooth log. Bend it a tad so that it looks like the one in the picture below, just make sure to get all the little creases out. πŸ™‚ Then take your knife and gently make lines along the back.

Step Three: Make the flower’s center

To make the flower’s center get a yellow blob of clay, roll it until it’s smooth, and press down on it with your finger.

Step Four: Make the flower’s petals.

Get a bigger piece of red clay and roll it into a log. Chop this log into five equal segments. One by one, roll out these segments into five balls. Now just smoosh those with your fingers.

Step Five: Finish the flower.

Lay the five petals around the yellow center. Next take something with a smooth glass surface (a ceramic tile works nicely, but the bottom of a glass would work too) and press it down on topΒ of the flower to smooth it out. Take the tile/glass off, flip the flower over, and put the inchworm shape onto it.

Step Six: Make the flower-crown base.

Take a teensy bit of green clay and roll it into a hair-like log. Make it as thin as you can without it breaking. Join it in a circle and press the ends together with a pinky fingernail, toothpick, or knife tip. Carefully place it on top of the inchy’s head.

Step Seven: Make the florets for the flower crown.

Now make a thin log of purple, divide it into five segments, and roll them into balls. this time you don’t need to squish them, just place them on the flower crown base as balls. If you want, you could put a drop of POLYMER CLAY GLUE onto each one to make sure it stays, but if you don’t have this then you’ll probably still be fine. πŸ˜‰

Step Eight: Do the finishing touches.

Use the toothpick to make eyes on the inchworm’s head. Inspect it for any mistakes, bake it according to clay package directions, and enjoy your inchworm! πŸ™‚ Only please make sure to tell anyone who sees it that you found the tutorial on the blog A Barefoot Gal. Just kidding! πŸ˜›

Do you think you’ll make this? Do you enjoy making things out of polymer clay?

Megan's butterfly sign-off

Mom was telling my sister what a passage she read was from, and she accidentally said ‘Tom Sawyer by Tom Twain’ instead of Mark Twain. πŸ˜›

      8. Yes, and if it’s Hillary/Trump, most chances are that it will end up being Hillary. It just means we must pray hard for our country!

  3. When I was much, much younger, I attended a craft class and made a clay turtle. I do not know why, but I made clay tears streaming down its face! Seeing this adorable clay inchworm reminded me of that project. It is very cute and craftsy! πŸ™‚
