AAWC Story and PTPWC Story

Hey guys! Today I combined the challenge from Misty’s writing contest and Samantha’s writing contest into one story! 😀 I used the prompts and my team’s name. Here it is.

I plucked a periwinkle-colored flower with my slender fingers as I walked along the road. The sun was rising up above the dusty blue mountains, lighting up the sky and filling my eyes with the beauty of the Canadian Rockies framed with beautiful bright sunlight. I filled my lungs with the crisp air and picked up my pace.

I needed to get to my grandmother’s house before seven thirty. In half an hour I would be there. I had a little extra time so I scurried off of the road and pushed my way through the Saskatoon bushes and up to a small lake’s shore. I settled down in the bushes and pulled out a small pair of binoculars. I skimmed them over the bright, sparkling waters and rested them on an ‘s nest. It was huge, but I couldn’t see any eagles… yet. I knew they’d be there soon, carrying food for the baby eagles that lay in the nest, covered in soft gray down. Hold on Adria, I told myself. They would come, they always had.

But they didn’t. It had been twenty minutes and I had to leave. I ran as fast as I could to my grandmother’s house and I was ten minutes late. After I had talked with her a while and had given her the basket filled with food, I hurried back to the lake. The parents weren’t there, but I felt sure that they had just come and then left again for more food. I sat there, waiting, while I nibbled on a handful of Saskatoon berries. I checked my watch. It was nearly quarter after eight. The parents had been gone far too long. I decided to go check out the nest to see what was up. This was not a very wise idea: bald eagles don’t love people visiting their nest.

I climbed up the tree the nest skillfully. I clamped a branch between my two legs and peeked into the nest where I saw three eaglets. They looked a little hungry, but not terribly. Then I looked out across the lake. Fear leaped into my heart as I saw an eagle scoop a fish up and swoop towards the nest. I swung off of the branch quickly and scurried down the tree. I was half way down when the eagle reached the nest. I froze against the tree trunk and gasped for breath. I was terrified of this eagle. And then, to make matters even worse, the mother came up to the nest with a large fish clamped in her talons. I was trembling now and my energy was used up. I just hoped the wouldn’t notice me.

Guess what? They didn’t. I’m still alive and I’ve seen eaglets up-close and personal. Not to mention I’ve been ten feet away from two gargantuan bald eagles. Of course, they probably seemed larger than they were, but still… I’m going to just watch eagles from now on.

So, how was it? I don’t think it’s my best ever. I didn’t really even have a story idea in mind but I think it works. 😉 I think I’ve had a bit of writers block lately… 😦 😛

Have a good day!
