Little Bits of Farm Life

Hello everyone!

Usually in my ‘Farm Life’ category, I do main farm happenings (projects, new equipment, etc.), but what about the little pieces? Well, here’s a post just for that. 🙂 Here are a few things that have been happening around the farm.

Carpentry

My little sister and my two brothers play chess a LOT. I played it a lot, but there is such a thing as too much chess. xD So now I just play it occasionally.

ANYWAY! My older sister has been asking dad to show us a little carpentry, and the boys thought it would be neat to make their own chessboard. Two weeks ago we got some walnut and maple boards, took them to the shop, and got started. It would take a whole post to explain how we made it, so here’s a little collage showing most of the tools we used and steps we did. 🙂

It’s not varnished yet, but otherwise it’s basically done.

Planting a Tree

We got a branch of a Pussy Willow, stuck it in a vase, and in about a month it had grown roots and a few leaves! We planted it and it appears to be doing good. 🙂

Frogs

I found a bunch of frogs in the creek today, and I finally managed to catch a big guy. I put him in the fish tank with a floating dock for him to get on, but quite soon he was wreaking havoc. 😛 So we took him back down to the creek. We got tons of pictures first, but of course I had JUST uploaded pictures from my camera, so I’ve only got two that were on there when I uploaded it. 😀

New Mower

Last Wednesday we went to Ohio to get a mower. Not a lawn mower, but a big butterfly mower, as they are called. It mows fields. I went along with dad and got a five-hundered page book read, so it was pretty fun. 😛 It took them quite awhile to load it on our trailer, and that was only a piece of it! The rest of it came on Tuesday. I don’t have any pictures of the actual mower, but we did go through a GREAT mile-long tunnel on the way there! It was glorious. xD

That’s all that comes to mind! Soon dad will be planting corn in the fields, and maybe I’ll do a post about that sort of thing… 🙂

The letter ‘T’ on our keyboard is basically worn off. I wonder why ‘A’ isn’t… maybe your index finger presses hard than your pinky. Probably. XD
