AAWC Story #2

Hello guys! Today I have my AAWC story. 🙂
The challenge was ‘photograph’ and I used my team’s name (eagle) in the story.

I listened to the rain drizzle down the sides of the tent. The trees made creaking sounds in the gentle wind and every now and then lightening would light of the night sky, though it was not accompanied by thunder.

I grasped her old copy of War and Peace. She finally slipped it out from under her pillow and opened it. She clicked on her flashlight and started reading the boring story. What could be worse than being stuck in a sopping tent with a strange and silent tent mate with the confusing name of Phaedra? I knew. She had read up all of the other books and was now left with War and Peace, her emergency book. She had been reading bits of it the whole year and was finally nearing the end. She turned page 667 and a photograph fell to the tent floor. Puzzled, I picked it up and held it to the flash light. It was a photo of an eagle flying up into the sky. It was quite old for the colors were faded and not very realistic.

“Do you like it?”

I jumped and turned her head towards Phaedra who had just spoken. “Uhh…. Sure?” she answered.

“I put it in there. I thought you’d like it.” Phaedra said this as though it was a perfectly normal thing to stick an old photo of an eagle in someone else’s book.

“I see,” I fibbed.

Phaedra stared up at the tent roof. I was surprised when lightning struck, revealing a tear sliding down her cheek.

“You okay?” I asked her.

“No. I hate tents and people think I’m strange. It’s okay though, I hate to be pitied even more. I’ll soon be back with my books.” Phaedra’s voice was cold now.

“Me too.” I murmured.

“Huh? You’ll be back with your books soon?”

“No.  I hate tents and people think I’m strange. I hate to be pitied. And I’ll soon be back with my books.”

Phaedra smiled at me. “Seriously?”

I nodded, and we were friends. It’s awfully funny how you think there’s no reason for having no friends and being miserable, but in the end its good, not just for you, but for someone else as well. But I like it, that’s for sure. And I’m quite glad that my tent mate was strange enough to put a photograph in my book.

Tada! Much longer than my last one. xD

Thanks for reading!
